Life at Happy Place Farm is full of surprises, and sometimes those surprises arrive no bigger than the palm of your hand. After losing one of our mama hens who had been faithfully brooding eggs, I checked the incubator where I had placed the remaining ones. To my amazement, a tiny chick had hatched — peeping loudly and ready to greet the world.

I carried this little one out to another mama hen who was already raising June Bug. Without hesitation, she tucked the chick under her wing and began caring for it as if it had always been hers. That tender moment reminded me of the quiet miracles that happen every day on the farm — the kind that make you stop and give thanks.

Finding a New Mama and a Sweet Friend

We named the new chick Brunie. He already looks like a little rooster, and the name honors my sister June’s husband, who has lovingly been called Brunie for years. Now our farm has its own feathery Brunie, safe and sound under his new mama’s wing and with June Bug by his side.
